I hope that you have had an enjoyable summer or winter if you are reading this in the Southern Hemisphere.

Here in Cornwall after a sunny and warm June the weather has been mostly disappointing until now when for a few days we have a heatwave – great if you are on a late vacation.

In May I travelled to the Isles of Scilly where I was lucky to have fine sunny weather enabling me to shoot new images, some of which I plan to share with you next year in our Isles of Scilly 2025 Calendar. Meanwhile:

Special note:

Sales of our Isles of Scilly 2024 Calendars have again been going very well so that we now have far fewer copies remaining in stock than is usual at this time of year.

So, if you are one of our many regular and loyal buyers of these calendars who has not yet bought your copy and wish to do so, I invite you to do so and don’t leave it until nearer to Christmas when you may find they have sold out, as looks to be a distinct possibility this year.

Designed and printed in Cornwall to the same very high specifications as in previous years I am delighted with how this latest edition has turned out and I am confident you will be too.

Click on the front cover picture above or HERE to browse through the images in our website of this calendar and to buy it online or by telephone.

Free Isles of Scilly Postcard & mailing envelope enclosed with each calendar.

Details of the size, specifications and high quality of this latest edition of our Calendar are the same as in previous years and can been found in our website.

Thanks to you if you are one of the many who tell us that you keep returning to buy our Isles of Scilly Calendars each year, saying: “they are the best on the market” and “excellent value”.

Here is just one of the many appreciative comments we have received:

"My IOS calendars arrived safely this morning with the postman.
As usual, the pictures look great."

On sale again on “Scillonian III”

After an interruption during the Covid Pandemic when Isles of Scilly Steamship Co had to suspend their onboard retail sales, I am pleased to report that our Isles of Scilly 2024 Calendars have again been available to buy this summer season on board M.V. “Scillonian III”, where you can also find a small selection of our Isles of Scilly postcards, in the Lower Deck Café. To the best of my knowledge at the time of writing they should still have stocks of these available on sale. If in doubt ask, at the Purser’s Office onboard or contact us.

Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust
“Save our Shore Birds Appeal”

On my stay on the Isles of Scilly in May I encountered and got chatting with members of the Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust with fund-raising money collection boxes who were at the head of The Quay on St. Mary’s, as passengers returned off boats from daytrips to the “off-islands” – a clever fundraising initiative!!!

I had planned to give them a bit of free publicity for their good work in a summer edition of this Newsletter but this got delayed and has become this September edition.

In the meantime, I came to learn about their “Save our shorebirds” appeal and how birds such as Oystercatchers are in decline and under threat for a number of reasons including disturbance of habitat by visitors and especially their dogs during nesting time.

I hope that you might be interested to learn more about this appeal and maybe join me in making a charitable donation to this good cause. To make this easy you can click on the picture above or HERE to take you to their website. Thank you.

And finally:

Continuing my occasional series of amusing and thought-provoking quotations:

In the light of recent air travel disruptions and problems, when I came across it, this quotation struck a chord and amused me:

“The saying ‘getting there is half the fun’ became obsolete with the advent of commercial airlines”.

Henry Tillman

And with many of us faced with elections next year, so did this:

Anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job.

Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
English humourist and science fiction novelist (1952 – 2001)
